Tips for Breaking Bad Diet Habits

breaking bad diet habitsBreaking Bad Habits is HARD!

Let me just say here for the record that breaking bad habits is so hard, isn’t it?! Oh my God! It has been a struggle for me. But if you’ve been following me for the past three days now, I have been on my new health and fitness journey and I’ve been following a brand new program called Core De Force, which is a martial arts program. It’s a lot of fun!

But my nutrition for the past 4 or 5 months has been so off. It has been hard because on our last supper on Sunday night, we were having pizza and I was having my drinks and so there was leftover pizza in the fridge for the past few days and the kids have been kind of eating it here and there. And I’m not even hungry but it’s just such a bad habit for me to go into the fridge. On, and the Halloween candy! HAHA. Torture.

When you are so used to these bad habits and you’re conditioned to reach for food when you’re stressed,  or anxious, or out of boredom, or maybe just being dehydrated, it’s so hard to break that!

Stress Threw Me From my Routine

Four months ago one of my Labrador Retrievers, Maui, passed away, and then 5 weeks later we lost our other one, Kona. If you’ve been following me, you know that that kind of really sent me over the edge. And when I am stressed out or upset or just anxious, I really fall off track and I turn to food. For four months I was doing my workouts but I really wasn’t watching what I was eating, kind of just doing what I wanted and packing on the pounds, avoiding the scale because I knew I was going on the wrong direction.

And then finally, in August I decided, “Enough is enough.” Time to get back on track now! So I I knew exactly what I was going to do – The Ultimate Reset, which is a 3-week program and it brings your body right back to its original most natural state. It’s one of my favorite programs!

Then, I committed to a change

I’m going to get on track. I’m going to stick with it. It’s going to get rid of all my cravings. I’m going to limit my caffeine now. I’m going to be having a lot of water intake and it’s going to be great. So I ordered it like grocery shopping. I got everything I needed. Planned out the meals. Prep the food. I was IN100%!

I did like 10 days and I was going strong and I was telling Nick the process of it all, I was like, “You know what? Thank God!” I’m like, “This is just want I needed and I’m so glad that I’m back on track. I’m feeling better about myself.” And then you know what happens.

Sidetracked on my nutrition plans, again

Kiersten falls in the house. She gets an infection right under her eye, just a little cut that led to cellulitis which can be extremely dangerous and she was in the hospital for 3 days.

And as we’re sitting there in the hospital, I had a choice and I chose the wrong one. Nick was like, “Just get a salad.” And I could have just said, “Let’s get the salad.” But instead I was like, “Screw it! I want the Steak Bomb Panini sandwhich.”

And then I fall off track again – because now, I’m like, “Oh, I cheated once. I might as well cheat again.” And the plan is over and boom! Failed! So I legit straight up failed in the middle of that program.

You don’t fail when you screw up, you fail when you QUIT!

So, I want you guys to know that it happens. You start programs and you start on trying to reach certain goals in anything in life, business related, relationship related, fitness and health related, and something happens and it derails you, right? And it’s OK that I failed because you grow through failure!

And so finally, on Sunday, just 3 days ago, that’s when we said, “We’re going – we have this brand new program, Core De Force is out. We’re going all in.”

And typically guys, I would have said, “I can’t start on Monday because Monday is Halloween and I know I’m going to have Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and I also know I’m going to be going trick and treating on my brother’s place and we like to have our cocktail so I can’t do that. And then it’s a 30-day program and I’m going on a Diamond retreat to be a speaker there on the 12th and we’re going to be going out to dinner so it’s a social event. I’m going to want to have my Captain’s and kind of eat what I want. Then it’s Thanksgiving.”

So typically in the past, it would have been like, “Forget it! We’re not going to do this.” But I decided to just do it anyways. And guys, you can do it! No matter what it is that you’re trying to commit to do, you just have to make that mental shift in your mind and get that mindset that

I am 150% committed to whatever this is that I’m going after and I’m going to do it and I don’t care what comes in my way. I don’t care what obstacles are thrown my way. I don’t care what happens. I am going to keep doing it and I’m going to keep doing it and I’m going to take it one day at a time.”

And so yes – I failed in the past. I fell off the nutrition plans for 4 months, and I’m a health and fitness coach! It happens. I am human. I started a new program to get on track, and I got derailed. I fell flat on my face. I stopped halfway through because I let life and excuses and different things get in the way. But it doesn’t mean that I’m a failure! And I have the tools to get right back on track again.

The Future can be better than the present

So guys, I just wanted to come on here to tell you guys that whatever it is that you are trying to succeed at, whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish, it could be anything in your life right now, don’t beat yourself up! It’s really just a shift in your mindset that you’re going to do it no matter how hard it is because guys, let’s just face it, it’s hard when you want to get results. And if you want to get different results and you want to see change, then you have to do something different. .

So that beginning is really hard. But what I found is that if you can make it through that first little bit of time, you’re so much more likely to stay on track. So whatever it is that you’re going after, make that mental mind shift.

So just make up that decision in your mind and just realize that whatever it is you’re going after like I said, if you want to see changes in your life, no matter what it is, you’ve got to be the one to make the change and you’ve got to stick with it no matter how hard it is. You have got to stick with it and never give up.

So, don’t get down on yourself. If you guys had a little failure today or if you had crazy mom moment where you weren’t that proud mom for that one day,  let it go. Move on tomorrow!

Pick yourself back up! Brand new day! Fresh star! Make that commitment and crush those goals.
