Healthy Flourless Chocolate Chip Brownies (Made with Chickpeas!)

This one was honestly a shock for me. I love hummus, but I couldn’t imagine turning chickpeas (“garbanzo beans”), into a brownie.

But, they are absolutely delicious, very healthy, and low in calories. This is an amazing treat to have when you are trying to eat healthier and is way better for you than a box of Duncan Hines!!

I love desserts, and this brownie really hit the spot. It’s very smooth, and tastes surprisingly like an actual flour-based brownie. I’m telling you, you will be shocked!!

Surprisingly enough, my kids loved these too, so if that’s not a stamp of approval, I don’t know what is! And they are usually cookie and brownie-aholics, so this was great to give them something healthier and still delicious. They actually asked to eat these the next morning for breakfast LOL.

I made these with maple syrup and dark chocolate, but you can also try honey as a sweetener and semi-sweet chocolate. You can also add in other ingredients from the base version, for example some chopped walnuts or swirl in peanut butter to make a peanut butter or nut type of brownie – just make sure to add up those additional nutrients if you are tracking your calories! In my opinion, these taste amazing as-is!

Tip – If you like your brownies a little goo-ier, make sure to NOT OVERBAKE these!

Flourless Chocolate Chickpea Brownies (16 Servings)

  • Nonstick Spray
  • (1) 15oz Can Chickpeas, Drained & Rinsed
  • (1/4) Cup Butter or Coconut Oil
  • (2) Large Eggs
  • (1/2) Cup Maple Syrup (can also substitute honey)
  • (2) Tsp Vanillla Extract
  • (1/2) Tsp Baking Powder
  • (1/4) Cup Semi-Sweet or Dark chocolate chips
  • Optional – Peanut Butter or Chopped Nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc).

Flourless Chocolate Chip Chickpea Brownies Baking Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly coat either 9×9 or 8×8 (for slightly thicker) pan with spray. If you have parchment paper, you can put that in first to avoid sticking, but I didn’t have any and it turned out just fine!

Place all ingredients except for the chocolate chips into a food processor or blender (I used my Vitamix) and blend until smooth.

Mix chocolate chips in by hand.

Spread into the baking pan.

Bake for 25 to 28 minutes. Just like a “normal” brownie, a toothpick should come out clean or close to clean when done.

Allow to cool, then cut into 16 squares.
